  7. instructions, an explanation of the INTERSOLV Q+E 6.0 
  8. evaluation copy, and a discussion of the key points of the 
  9. full-version of Q+E.

  12.                       System Requirements
  13.  
  14. To run this evaluation copy of Q+E, the software and hardware 
  15. requirements are:
  16.  
  17. *  IBM PS/2, PC/AT, or compatible
  18. *  Microsoft Windows version 3.1 or later
  19. *  At least 2 MB of memory
  20.

  22.                         Installing Q+E
  23.  
  24. To install Q+E, you must be running Windows. Follow these steps:
  25.  
  26. 1.  Insert the CD-ROM in your compact disc drive.
  27.  
  28. 2. In the Program Manager, choose the Run command from the 
  29.    File menu. In the Command Line box, type 
  30.  
  31.    drive:\pathname\setup 
  32.  
  33.    For example, b:\qe6\setup.

  38.                     Q+E 6.0 Evaluation Copy

  40. Your evaluation copy of Q+E has been made available free of 
  41. charge and has the following restrictions:

  44. * includes only the dBASE ODBC driver

  46. * lets you issue a maximum of 100 SQL statements per session

  49.                 Key Points of INTERSOLV Q+E 6.0

  51. INTERSOLV Q+E 6.0 is an enterprise-wide data access system 
  52. for organisations that need easy access to multiple 
  53. client/server databases.  The product includes advanced 
  54. functionality to address four key components of data access 
  55. systems: access, data warehousing, administration, and tools.
  56.  
  57. Data Access--retrieves data from more than 30 database systems 
  58. throughout the organisation. Q+E includes the Query Builder, 
  59. an intuitive tool that allows users to point-and-click to generate 
  60. database queries quickly and easily--even without a working 
  61. knowledge of SQL commands.  The Query Builder is simple 
  62. enough for end users, yet powerful enough for sophisticated 
  63. business analysts.

  65. Data Warehousing--allows Q+E to insulate users from complex 
  66. database infrastructures and present information to novice 
  67. users in a way that is meaningful to them.  Sophisticated 
  68. queries can be created by power users and presented to novice 
  69. users as simple point-and-click icons within Q+E.  Table and 
  70. field names can be replaced with meaningful descriptions, 
  71. such as employee name, date of birth, and department to enable 
  72. users to access information and bypass complex database commands.  
  73. Q+E also includes the Job Scheduler which allows queries to be 
  74. initiated at predetermined times, improving timeliness of 
  75. information and effectiveness.  For example, larger queries can 
  76. be scheduled at 3:00 each morning, ensuring that users have 
  77. current information in the morning while saving prime-time 
  78. processing cycles.

  80. Administration--enables database administrators to maintain 
  81. control over sensitive information, preserve data integrity, 
  82. and prevent unauthorised use while providing users with direct 
  83. access to information.  The Q+E Administrator allows administrators 
  84. to establish graduated access privileges for individual employees 
  85. and groups of workers.  In addition, specific commands can be 
  86. disabled or removed from the menu so that users are presented only 
  87. functions for which they are authorised.  These critical features 
  88. allow end-user empowerment while not sacrificing data integrity.

  90. Tools--includes a complete set of robust end-user tools that let 
  91. users graphically represent corporate data and present information 
  92. for better decision-making.  Q+E tools include a banded report 
  93. writer, the Chart Builder, the Form Builder, a customisable icon 
  94. bar, and OLE 2.0 automation.  The product also includes drill-down 
  95. support, similar to more costly EIS systems, to let users 
  96. obtain more information on a particular aspect of data.  Q+E 
  97. spreadsheet add-ins integrate with leading Windows spreadsheets, 
  98. including Microsoft Excel, Borland Quattro Pro and Lotus Improv, 
  99. to allow end users to access corporate data from within a spreadsheet.
